The Workshop


the workshop was a little training before the real class with children in which we worked in differents activities to develop our ease and get rid of shyness. The workshop was taught for a teacher of Theatre.

The workshop was given in "Departamento de arte y cultura" in Don Bosco University.






in the first activity the teacher asked us to make a circle, each of us had to introduce ourselves and made a gesture. 
Note: this activity help us to brake the ice and gain confidence.



In the last activity the teacher asked us to sit down in the flour and make a circle. he gave us 2 pieces of paper in which we had to write 4 questions with the 4 answer. 

the questions were:
1. Who am I?
2. Why am I so?
3. What I want to this training? 
4 What could be a obstacle?
 ( we have to represent an animal or something of the nature)

for example, my answer were:

1. I'm a butterfly.
2. because I have a lot of colors and I want to fly higher.
3. I want to my classmates can fly high like me.
4. that the rain comes.

we had to dramatize the animal and express our answers in front of our classmate. 

Note: that help us to get rid of shyness. 
we learn that we children we have to be creative and outgoing. also to be control of our facial gestures and voice projection.

Class: "Sports" (Teachers Nahomy & Karla)


  • Bingo Song: teacher nahomy pasted in the board, a poster with the lyrics of the bingo song. teacher and students sang together. At second time, teacher showed some gestures to students. then teacher and students sang the song 2 times more making gestures.
Materials: Poster with lyrics.

Teacher Karla present 6 diferents sports and the spelling of each, then she asked to the students to repeat after her 3 times.
  • Simon says: teacher karla pasted on the board, pictures of some sports and the spelling (untidy).the students were stand up in front of the board. teacher Karla said the phrase "simon says make groups of 3." students had to make groups of 3 and the student who was alone, had to put the correct spelling in a picture of one sport.
Materials: Flashcards with the sports and spelling.


  • Scrabble words: Students made groups of 3, each group had little pieces of paper with letters. the teacher will say the name of a sport, and the students had to form the word that the teacher mentioned. 
Materials: Scrabble words.

Class: "let's have a party" (party items) (Teachers Hazel & Geovanny)

Teacher Giovanny pasted flashcards with 10 items that are used in party, with the corresponding spelling. He asked to the students to repeat 3 times after him to learn the vocabulary.
Materials: foami balloons with spelling and flashcard with the items.

When they had memorized the vocabulary, the teacher asked to the students to closed their eyes while he was changing the order of the pictures. Then he asked to the students to put the pictures in the corresponding place.


  • Conversation: teacher Hazel (me) pasted in the board a poster with a short conversation. students made pairs. she asked to the students to repeat the conversation after her, then she asked to the students to repeat 3 times more, but in each time they had to add emotions. the first time they said the conversation angry, the second time, they did it sad, and the last time they did it happy.
Materials: poster with the conversation.

  • Flypaper: The teacher pasted on the board pictures with the 10 items presented in class, the students made to groups and formed a line per group.  teachers give to the first member of the line a flypaper, when the teacher name an item, they had to run and hit the picture of the item that teachers had mentioned.
Materials: pictures of the items and flypapers.

Note: the teachers used activities with a lot material and in which their students had to move, with kids the learning has to be funny and attractive for them.

Class: "Colors" (Teachers Fatima & Vanessa)


  • Find the color: students made pairs. Teacher vanessa took a little bag in which she had little pictures of the colors. the teacher showed to the students a picture of a color and the students had to find an object in the classroom with that color.
 
Materials: litle pictures of colors & bag

Teacher fatima presented the topic, showing to the students flashcards with the colors. she asked to the students "what color is it?" to know if they were familiar with that color. then she presented the spelling of each color, 
Materials: Flaschcards with the colors and spelling.

  • Colors balloons: Teacher vanessa presented to the students eight balloons of each color, students made pair to pick up a piece of paper for example if the student has chosen the piece of paper with color orange the pair of students have to write in other piece of paper the corresponding spelling of the color. Then students pasted the spelling in the corresponding balloon.
    Materials: paper balloons, marckers and piece of paper.
Note: all the materials were colored full, that is very important when you are worcking with kids

My name is Hazel Abigail Pineda, I'm studying languages option teaching in Don Bosco University. I think that teaching it's something special because you can see the process of learning of others, in which you are the main help and that is rewarding.

 Right now, i'm taking a teaching practice class to children. In this blog I will present activities, materials and dynamics that can be used to teach English to children. Each activity, material and dynamic will be described in detail. All the activities, materials and dynamics were presented in our classroom, of classes between us  and classes that we will give to children
